Keyword searches
From the most bizarre and complicated areas of expertise to subjects we come across everyday, 2 has an expansive subject index. the subject index currently runs to 22,435 entries. Keyword searches allow you to enter one or more words for 2 to search of in the index.

You should be aware that the initial dataset for 2 is derived from that compiled for its sister publications, The UK Register of Expert Witnesses. This means that 2 benefits from the fact that all the listed experts have had their expertise tested by the rigours of the litigation process, indeed many have been used by the courts.

However, this inheritence also means that the subject index is litigation savvy: if you can litigate it, 2 will have an index term for it! You should also review the information on 2' unique eCast Search feature which helps to mitigate this side-effect of the quality control inheritance of 2.

Keyword search options
Keyword searching is accessed through the 'Search' menu option. You should bear in mind the following key points when you use keyword searching:
  • You should start with a broad search, i.e. use just one or two keyword. You can always refine the search if you get too many experts back.
  • You should enter only as much of a keyword as necessary, e.g. instead of 'plumbing' or 'plumber' you should enter 'plumb' which will then match entries with any word starting with 'plumb'.
  • You can enter as many keywords as you like, and you can specify whether entries must have all, or just any, of the keywords.
  • Your keywords must be at least three characters long.
  • The search is conducted against the index terms for an expert, so don't be suprised if the keywords don't appear in the actual entry.
  • You can choose to restrict your search by geographical region.
